Huxham Golf Design Inc. is an international golf design firm whose two principals have over 30 years experience in the design of over 40 golf courses worldwide.  HGD offers a complete range of services related to the design, development, construction management and supervision of golf related projects and golf renovations. We have been involved in the design and construction of over 40 golf courses  and have experience in all types of terrain, from mountains to lowlands, and forests to fields.  We have worked in clay, peat and sand, as well as gravel and rock, and it is this experience that allows us to assemble the very best team of earth movers, shapers, finishers, drainage, irrigation and maintenance personnel available to design and build the best course possible on a given site on time and on budget.  We strive to exceed our clients expectations. This has been our reputation in the past and will continue to be our philosophy and vision in the future.

Flow with the natural features:

HGD believes that a golf course should not be imposed upon the land; it should flow with the natural beauty of the existing features.  If properly routed, a good site can require minimal earthmoving and shaping.  Often the existing features are so impressive that, to create an outstanding golf course, one need only adapt them slightly to allow for play.  Site selection can be of great importance in allowing a course to be built at a reasonable cost, all the while giving it the flow and character of the best courses in the world.

Transformation of an average site:

Unfortunately, ideal sites are not always available and it is here that an architect's competence and imagination can be truly demonstrated.  The transformation of an average site into an award winning layout is where we pride ourselves most.  We are on the cutting edge of modern design philosophy and our innovation allows us to design impressive character and visual appeal into the most ordinary site.

Visual appeal:

HGD is a company that prides itself on the visual attractiveness of our designs. The golfer will be stimulated at every tee box and will be presented with the appearance of many obstacles near and far, while always maintaining good balance throughout the course.  Depending on the site, our designs often feature numerous lakes that will entice one to take chances, where a good shot is rewarded. 

Appear difficult, play easy: 

The visual presence of the many hazards will give one the feeling that they are playing a course that is tougher than it actually is.  We want the player to be enthusiastic about hitting their next shot.  We want you to remember all of the holes not just one or two, and the ability to remember many shots that were played in a round is of great importance to us.  We are always working to create visually stimulating layouts that appear difficult  but play friendly, we want players to feel good after they come off one of our designs, scoring better than they had expected.  The real teeth of the courses are reserved for the more accomplished players who will be challenged at every level of the game to play their best.

Risk / Reward: 

There are notoriously many risk reward shots to be encountered, and the player will be presented with numerous decisions to be made.  Our courses are challenging, yet rewarding, as all of the features are in view to allow the golfer to choose their line of attack.  We strive to eliminate blind shots and hesitate to place hazards were they are not visible to the player.  Our philosophy is for the golfer to see what lies ahead in order to bring the element of fear and decision making to the forefront.
